weaving resilient webs: core values
upcoming in our 2nd week of weaving resilient webs, we will be centring down into core values through a practical process adapted from ecstasy is necessary.
as barbara carrellas guides it in the book, we orient to what we value by orienting quite literally to the what of what we value: which experiences, feelings, items, places, relationships are of the most value to us? & then we distill these "things" (certainly not all inanimate, if there even is any such thing as an inanimate thing) into the essences of what we value, which form the foundations of our "why's" as we make choices to direct our power in our lives, as well as in our relationships. our "bottom-lines" in relationships, our "dealbreakers," are often informed by our core values.
in the original methodology from ecstasy is necessary there is a step that includes ranking, placing "things" in direct contrast and competition with each other, that i & many other students of this curriculum have found not only a bit frustrating, but also inaccurate. alongside this methodology, i offer one of webbing relationships between things & then noting centrality based on density of relationship: the things that are the most interconnected, then, become the things of highest value in our personal worlds. in my repeated movements through this curriculum over the 14 years since my first time moving through it after my first devastating lesbian breakup, i've found the methodology of webbing my values more accurate & accessible than ranking, and also variety is the spice of life. i love to offer both a more linear & a more circular way to the centre.
if your clarity on your own values could use a shine-up, it's not too late to join this cohort of weaving resilient webs: i have left registration open until our start time for second session at 7pm ET on thursday the 5th, and you are invited to slip on in for the rest of this 8-week cycle! the first session recording is available for you in our vimeo portal.
if you are a current or past participant in weaving resilient webs, i invite you into a tiny practice of feeling for & transmitting down your webs: is there a friend or acquaintance you think might be into this? is there something you really remember & value from your time studying in this curriculum, something that changed you or that you still use today? can you send a message or make a post & share that? personal testimonials are the lifeblood of the solo practitioner in community & i am grateful for your word of mouth every time!
