moonwork mini: waxing crescent 🌒
get yr body a lil more comfy & cozy
orient to something you'd like to do, but haven't yet started doing. when you try to start doing it, what happens?
often the voice or sensation that stops us is a form of shame––whether or not it speaks in the voice popularized by brené brown.
some ways you might recognize shame's presence if if you can't precisely hear/feel it:
over-determining what it should be before it exists thus making it impossible to start it, in its nascent disorganization
telling a story about why you are the wrong person for the task or it's not yours to take up
feeling frozen/absent or immobilized
imagining the judgments or negative reactions of others
a disgust or nausea that doesn't seem to make sense
...& many others
consider: if my shame were a creature/being/monster, what would it be?
what would it look like? sound like? say? what would it wear or how would its body be shaped/adorned?
walk it off / shake it out / take some breaths
then consider: how can i hug or comfort that creature?
find a way to actually try doing that: touch your body, move your body, create detailed vision
notice how this feels.
if you can, try doing this before arguing back against shame or trying to disprove it.
you may find you don't need to argue at all, but simply enfold it into your whole & bring it along as you move.
